Oils and Poos

Oil Essentials

I wanted to get a better understanding of essentials oils and how they benefit, my hair thus I found out some information via provillus-for-women.com, Ladies you should check it out…

The oils I will be using on my hair for the moment is Olive Oil and Jojoba, both are known as carrier oils for any essential oils used. At this point I’ve found other essential oils to be very expensive so…

I will also be doing my first prepoo, I found this particular recipe on the BlackHairMedia.com Forum. I purchased the following products for it.

2 eggs (purchased 1/2 dozen at Vons – $1.19)

1 tablespoon Olive Oil ($3.99 Trader Joes) (Girls make sure your olive oil is Extra Virgin)

1-2 tablespoons Cholesterol ($1.59 Sally Beauty)

* I will also be adding  1 tablespoon Jojoba Oil – as it aids in preventing breakage…I will not be doing the aloe vera portion as I could not find any 100% pure at any store today *

Shampoo

I am proud to say I just got rid of all of my Sulfate shampoos (I gave them to a roommate and freecycled the rest) as well as all my haircare products that contained -cones and mineral oils. I however purchased the Dr. Bonner Peppermint Magic Soap ($8.99 Trader Joe’s). I wasn’t very happy about spending that much on shampoo, but its sooo concentrated according to the sales girl, that it will last a VERY long time. I love the peppermint smell, I found a small bottle for 3.99 at another health food store, but it was Eucalyptus, but I do not want to smell like a forest! I had initially purchased the 2.49 peppermint bar soap, but wanted to do the product the way Traycee did

“I took a 16 ounce applicator bottle…I then took my Oil Mix ( Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Macadamia Oil)….

I added 1 ounce of my oil mix…. Then added 2 ounces of the Dr. Bronners Magic Soap Peppermint (its very thin )….Shook it well…When u shake the two together it becomes creamy..Then I poured purified water and filled up the rest of the bottle with the water ( about 12 or 13 ounces)…Shook again…And that’s it..”

For mine however, I will be adding the olive oil ($3.99 Trader Joe’s), jojoba ($6.99 Trader Joe’s), and coconut oil ($7.99 at Clark’s Nutrition)…I also purchased an applicator bottle ($1.39 Sally Beauty).

Protective Styles

The reason for my protective styles will be to give my hair a rest from the way it usally is, after all…stress on the hair can lead to breakage. So in honor of the protective styles and the fact the I want to look Very Sexy for my man on Valentine’s Day I decided to pamper my hair and put it up in flexi rods, my hair dresser use to do this for me all the time…However, at Sally’s the rollers were approximately $7/pk + tax, however a friend of mine that did some running around with me today took me to a place where they only cost $5/pk, I bought 5 (50 rollers) and was told by the sales girl, I could return any of the ones I didn’t need (after all I wasn’t sure how many I needed).

Deep Conditioner

I still want to make a deep conditioner using the method I discussed in an earlier post, however finding Raw shea butter and coconut oil where I live is NOT happening.  So I was reading some suggestions on deep conditioner treatments using Olive Oil, Honey, and regular conditioner.  I guess I will try that due to the fact that honey acts as a humectants as well as rose water to seal in moisture after I wash my hair with Dr. Bonners.

Wish List

I would like to get some raw shea butter for my moisturzing treatments….as well as some tea tree, almond oil, and rose water…I will have to wait till I get some cash flow

  1. I love the smell of almond and I just recently bought Better Locks Almond Conditioning Oil. What do you use the almond oil for?

    • Hi Cheri,
The almond oil is used in everything from my prepoo treatment to addative to condioner, it aids in preventing breakage, which was something I had been experiencing for a while, plus it smells good.
